Frequently Asked Questions
Does Motor Point Acupuncture Hurt?
As with any form of electroacupuncture, Motor Point Acupuncture is easily adjustable to remain well within your comfort zone. Most of what you will feel during the procedure is related to the movement and stretching of your own muscles and tissues as they respond to simulation. Even sensitive individuals tolerate it quite well. Because no damage is being done to the tissues, any post-treatment soreness is minimal and short-lived. Most people leave feeling much better than when they arrived.

Is it Safe?
Absolutely! Motor Point Acupuncture is a minimal process involving a painless acupuncture touch and the use of a tiny amount of electrical current, similar to the amount of electricity your body naturally produces. It simply works by briefly stimulating your muscles to do what they do naturally, which is contract and relax.
How is Motor Point Acupuncture different from conventional Acupuncture?
Conventional Acupuncture involves resting with needles inserted in various body points for a length of time. In contrast, Motor Point Acupuncture focuses on releasing one tight bundle of muscle fiber at a time, typically requiring between one and two minutes each. There is no need to keep a needle in place after a muscle is released, so you are never “pinned to the table”. We work at our own pace, and the experience is somewhat like a physical therapy session.
Do you also offer conventional Acupuncture?
Yes I do! I offer conventional Acupuncture alongside trigger point therapy, and can easily divide a session half-and-half between the two.
Do you also offer Massage?
While I do not currently offer dedicated sessions of massage only, an optional short massage is offered at the start of every session to help relax and prepare the muscles. Not everybody needs this, but for some people it really does help.
How does Motor Point Acupuncture work?
The key is microcurrent stimulation. You can think of a “trigger point” as a place where a bundle of muscle fibers have temporarily run out of energy, so they are basically stuck in the “on” position. By going around charging these muscle fibers just like little batteries, you can effectively reactivate these muscle fibers and the muscles to which they belong. It is a change you can see and feel happening in real time, as stuck muscles progress from a gentle quiver to a healthy full-strength contraction in just a matter of seconds!
How many sessions will I need?
Each and every session is designed to be effective, so even just one is worth doing! Two is always better. Three or four would be required to adequately address multiple areas of the body.
